They say that it's really difficult to be a woman. So imagine how difficult it is to be a woman on a desert island. The biggest task is to mix being a woman with the survival instinct.

Strong women are always fascinating so I wonder why there're so few of them on TV. Definitely The Lost producers would win the contest for the best female characters on the small screen. They created a couple of women who are confident. They manage on their own in the middle of a jungle, and at the same time they don't lose their femininity. By the way, it's interesting how they manage to keep their hair perfect without all of those special shampoos and conditioners...

Let's look closer at Kate Austen and Juliet Burke. Kate is a fugitive, who killed her father and was betrayed by her mother. She was arrested in Sydney by a US marshal and was going to be deported. But then the plane crashed and everything changed. She got a chance to escape from her past. She shows that she's not one of those delicate ladies who need to be taken care of. She is brave, strong and committed. When she was a prisoner she never gave up. Here she fights with the Others, takes part in various dangerous missions together with men. At the same time she gets involved in a love triangle with Jack and Sawyer. In that situation she acts like a real woman - unable to decide what she wants.

Juliet Burke is a fertility doctor. She lived her life in Miami with a bullying husband. After his mysterious death, she accepts a job offer... and wakes up on an island. We don't know all her secrets but a couple of things are sure. She is intelligent and strong. She definitely knows how to defend herself. Between her experiments and giving food to the prisoners she finds time to make herself look good. Although she looks innocent, she can be really coldblooded.

One has brown hair, the other is blonde. Both know how to use a gun and survive in dangerous situations. They compete with each other, but have a lot in common. You have to admit one thing - there's something about them that makes you want to watch the next episode.
